Cathy Wong is a teacher, consultant, clinician and alternative medicine practitioner with 10 years of experience. She also is a prolific writer and wrote The Inside Out Diet, in which she gives information on her idea of a Gentle Detox. The course lasts for three weeks, and she outlines steps, which include:

Step 1: Start your detox by temporarily removing the foods that are congesting the liver and colon with fats and toxins, which are listed above. These foods include milk, sugar, wheat, alcohol, meat and any other processed foods. This step should last for one week.

Step 2: Check for food intolerances by reintroducing the eliminated foods gradually back into your diet. For example, you can begin eating fish and chicken, or reintroducing yogurt and milk into your diet, and then see how you feel. If you begin to feel bloated or uncomfortable then re-eliminate these foods from your diet. This step should take two weeks.

Step 3: Maintain a healthy diet which includes all of your Do's, and a moderate amount of the Don'ts, except for the ones you've realized you have an intolerance to. For example, you can eat whole wheat bread, a glass of wine and yogurt in addition to a balanced diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and with sufficient hydration.

One of the best things about the Inside-Out Diet doesn't involve permanently giving up coffee, meat, wheat, or dairy or fasting. Because it is a gentle and gradual programme, this gentle detox also supports permanent weight loss (and health gain!) through a positive change in habits and lifestyle.
